Filter List panel How-To
We understand that with hundreds of thousands of trading strategies available, finding the ones that suit your needs can be overwhelming. That's why we have a powerful Filter Tool to help you narrow down your search and select the best strategies for you.
In this guide, we'll walk you through using the Filter List tool step by step, both for looking for new strategies you don’t know about yet or to help you sort through the ones you decided to enable alerts for, so you can find the strategies that meet your current needs effectively.
To find new crowd-sourced strategies
Step 1: Set your Scan Tab menus
Starting from the Scan Tab, where you'll find the complete database of backtested trading strategies created by our community, make sure you have the “All Strategies” option selected from the Strategy Menu.
With the Stocks dropdown menu, you’re free to decide if you want to look for strategies for the Current Stock, the Current Watchlist, or on All Stocks.
With the Lookback Period menu, you can also decide if you want the Filter List criteria you’re about to create to be applied to the last 12 months (1Y) of that strategy, 3 years, 5 years, or even to the last 10 years.
Step 2: Open the Filter Tool
Look for the Filter Tool panel within the Scan Tab. The Filter Tool is generally open by default, but if you’re unable to locate it, click on the Filter Tool icon to open the tool, which will open a panel with various filters and checkboxes to refine your search.
Step 3: Select Strategy Status
The Filter Tool allows you to choose the strategy status based on four options: "Starting," "Ending," "Active," or "Inactive." Understanding these status options will help you find the strategies that suit your trading preferences.
Step 4: Apply Statistic Filters
The Filter Tool offers several sliding filters and checkboxes related to strategy statistics. These filters allow you to set specific criteria based on parameters such as stock price, rating, annual return, risk-reward ratio, batting average, average gain and loss, wins and losses, drawdown, and trade length. Adjust the sliders or select checkboxes according to your desired values and ranges.
To effectively narrow down your search, you can mix and match as you wish, or experiment with some popular filter combinations we recommend:
Step 5: Choose Strategy Types
You can further narrow down your search by selecting specific strategy types. For example, if you are interested in long or short positions, simply check the corresponding checkboxes to filter strategies accordingly.
Step 6: Specify Studies Conditions
The Filter Tool also enables you to choose specific studies conditions that the strategies should meet. These conditions can include popular technical indicators like Heikin-Ashi or MACD (PayDay Cycle fans, anyone?). The indicator combinations are pretty much endless! Select the studies conditions that align with your trading preferences by checking the appropriate checkboxes.
Step 7: Refine and Review Results
Once you have set your desired filters and checkboxes, you’ll see a list of trading strategies that meet your specified criteria.
To find strategies from your My Strategies list
Set your Scan Tab menus
From the Scan Tab, make sure you have the “My Strategies” option selected from the Strategy Menu. You’re also free to decide if you want to look for strategies for the Current Stock, the Current Watchlist or on All Stocks.
Afterwards, follow Steps 2 to 7 from the previous section on how to look for crowd-sourced strategies. Instead of looking within our extensive database, you’ll be looking into the ones you already chose to keep an eye on.
